Taonui (deceased)
A chief of equal rank to Wahanui of Ngatimaniapoto, with whom he
was very closely related. He fought against the Government in the
Waikato wars. He had a great deal of the old style of Maori
rangatira about him. Was generous and hospitable to a fault. He was
considered to be a brave man, and also a good diplomat. After the
war he lived quietly at Te Kuiti until his death.
Pare Watene. (deceased)
A daughter of the late Hemi Watene of Ngatimaru of Thames. There
is nothing particular to record about her of her ancestors.
