Dear Sir,
I am instructed by the President to forward to you copies of
letters to and from Captain Halsey, which were sent and received in
connection with the gift of the photograph of Tamati WakaNene,
which in accordance with your wishes and through Miss O'Neill, the
Victoria League presented to the New Zealand while she was in
Auckland.
I am desired to thank you very much for the opportunity you gave
the Victoria League of doing some little thing to keep its memory
green in the minds of Captain Halsey and his men.
Yours faithfully,
Edith M Statham
General Secretary.
I am further directed to say that we sent typewritten copies of
these letters to both "Star" and "Herald" but the reports published
were most unsatisfactory so Mr Andersen wanted you to see the
original letters.
