17.2.03  Hapeta te Moeroa o Ngatimaniapoto  Utuhina Ohinemutu, Rotorua  I have seen the portraits of elders and chiefs who have now departed this world. I have much affection for them - especially for those I knew when they were living. The Pākehā has done a tremendous job in creating a very good likeness in these portraits. Greetings to you all
5.3.03  Tetau Paranihi  Hearse; Taupo Tongariiro  I have come here to see the portraits of our ancestors. They have long since passed this generation. Two or three times I have seen them and thought that these could be their bodies here present in this gallery. Greetings to the person who created my ancestors. Greetings, greetings
15/4/03/  Eruera Nekitini  Levin Horowhenua - Otaki  My heart is filled with amazement at seeing the portraits of the ancestors of this country who have separated from us by death. Greetings to be gazed upon by future generations. May the Lord save us.
    15/04/003  A. H.Kumeroa  Greytown Wairarapa
17/4/003  Meretini Kipa Te Ahatanui, Heeni Kipa Te Whatanui  Otaki Ngatiraukawa & Ngapuhi  My mother and I have come here to see the portraits of the ancestors of our people, that is of all the tribes. An excellent job has been done by this Pākehā. Well done. You continue with your work, Pākehā, we the Māori do not know how to make these images of our ancestors So greetings to you.

Tena rawa atu koe Te Pikikotuku. Kai te tika tau. Aroha mai. While the comment is incorrect -as you have rightly pointed out- it is an historic comment recorded in the pukapuka manuhiri in 1902. I will attach a note to our records for Rewi Manga Maniapoto, noting your korero.

I note in gallery visitors book a comment about Tupotahi being a brother to Manga Maniapoto. see following extract...... "Mei 24 (1902) Tupotahi Tukorehu (memo - brother of Rewi Manga Maniapoto) Kihikihi " For your information, Tupotahi and Manga were in fact cousins not brothers. Their grandfathers were half brothers....
