Hamiora Tu. A chief of the Ngaiterangi tribe of Tauranga. During
the fighting at Tauranga in 1864 he was one of the few Natives who
remained loyal to the Queen. He and his cousin Rauiera Te
Hiahia acted as guides to General Cameron's forces. He was a large
land owner in the Tauranga District and received large reserves
within the confiscated district in consideration of his services.
He was honest and generous in disposition, and liked by the
European settlers.
